Prayers for the World 

-For Joy in God’s Creation

O God, who hast filled the world with beauty: Open our eyes to behold thy gracious hand in all thy works.

-For All Sorts and Conditions of Men

O God, the creator and preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men

-For the Human Family

O God, look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts.

O God, break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love to accomplish your purposes on earth.

-For Peace

God, so mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace.

God, we humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will.

God, bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion.

God, endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home.

-For Social Justice

Grant O God, that your life-giving Spirit may move every human; that barriers which divide us may crumble; that we may live in peace.

-In Times of Conflict

God, help us, in the midst of our struggles for justice, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work together.

-For Agriculture

God, we thank you for making Earth fruitful: Bless workers in the fields and give us seasonable weather.

-For the Unemployed

God, we remember before you those who suffer anxiety from lack of work. Guide the people of this land so that all may find suitable employment.

God, bless all schools, colleges, and universities, that they may be lively centers for  learning, discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom.

God, grant that, as we probe the mysteries of your creation, we may come to know you more truly, and more surely fulfill our role.

God, you made us fellow workers in your creation: Give us wisdom and reverence so to use the resources of nature, so that no one may suffer.

God, bless the lands and waters, and multiply the harvests of the world; let thy Spirit go forth, that it may renew the face of the earth.

God, show thy loving-kindness, that our land may give her increase; and save us from selfish use of what thou givest.

God, We commend to thy continual care the homes in which thy people dwell. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience.

God, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up.

-For Young Persons

God, you see your children growing up in a confusing world: Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world.

God, whose Son had nowhere to lay his head: Grant that those who live alone may not be lonely in their solitude.

Look with mercy, God, on all whose increasing years bring them weakness, distress, or isolation. Provide for them homes of dignity and peace

God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor, we pray, on your servant as he begins another year.

Watch over thy child, God, as his days increase; bless and guide him wherever he may be.

God, please bless those whom we love, now absent from us. Defend
them from all dangers of soul and body.

God, preserve those who travel; surround them with your loving care; protect them from every danger; and bring them home in safety.

For a Person in Trouble or Bereavement

Prayers for the Sick, Dying and Departed 

-Prayers for a Sick Person

God,look upon him with the eyes of thy mercy and give him patience under his affliction.  In thy good time, restore him to health.

-For Recovery from Sickness

God, accept our prayers, and grant him the help of your power, that his sickness may be turned into health, and our sorrow into joy.

God, be present in your goodness with him that his weakness may be banished and his strength restored; and that, his health being renewed.

-For a Sick Child

God, watch with us over your child, and grant that he may be restored to that perfect health which it is yours alone to give.

God, we commend to your loving care this child.  Relieve his pain, restore to him your gifts of gladness and strength.

God, graciously comfort him in his suffering, bless the means made use of for his cure, and fill his heart with confidence.

Strengthen him, God, to do what he has to do; that, accepting your healing gifts through the skill of surgeons, he may be restored to health.
